{Your Space} Baby A's New Beginnings

Last fall I painted this custom nursery art as a surprise for a new dad-to-be from mom-to-be. Well, their baby girl arrived on Christmas Day and they just recently did this amazing photo shoot with her in her new room...

I absolutely love the color combination of teal, purple and citrus green in this baby's nursery. And, I cannot get over that sweet little bundle in the bucket! I mean, come on! So, so precious. Welcome to the world, Baby A!

Guest Post over at Always Ashten

Hi friends! I'm a guest blogger over at Always Ashten today. Ashten always shares super funny stories and she lives in the real, true South... how cool is that? She has started a series about body image, weight, and feeling beautiful to remind us that we are not alone in our struggles. You can read more of my story on her blog (and check out the other posts in the series as well).

I will actually be sharing more of my own fun guest posts soon too. I'm looking forward to having some fun friends share here. Ellie and I are fighting super yucky colds AGAIN so today we are napping and lounging and I'm hoping to get a few things done in between. Have a great day!

ABCs Sneak Peek

I've started working on a fun piece of kid's art and just thought I'd give you a little peek. This is only the first layer, as I plan on adding a ton more letters and colors, and a few other goodies. Hoping to finish it in the next week or so - I'll keep you posted.

In other news, Jessi highlighted my blog makeover (and another she recently did) yesterday. I love her work!

We (and by "we" I mean my child) are having nap troubles around here this week, making for very. long. days. Trying to keep my (tired) spirits up with coffee, long walks and time with friends! Hope you all are having a good week!

Guest Post: Jessica Mingo

This month, my friend Jessica Mingo is working on her first illustrated children's book! The story circulates around a mouse character that hosts a tea party for the neighborhood animals. Each illustration is hand painted in water color and they are so cute and quirky! Jessica is here to tell you a bit more...

"Hi I'm Jessica Mingo, and I am attempting to write and illustrate my first children's book! I still have to pick a title, finish writing, and finish the pictures, so I have a long way to go, but it's exciting. I've always wanted to do a children's book since I was 6 years old, so in a way, this is long overdue. I feel as though the pictures should do most of the "talking" in a children's book. There needs to be creativity, detail, and the characters need to have expressions and personalities to captivate the attention of a squirmy reader, (hehe). I remember looking at the pictures of my books for hours, wishing I was there with the characters sitting and having tea, or running wild in a field with my animal friends. I want my book to give the same sensation to children, that I had when I was a kid. I will never forget my favorite illustrations from books for as long as I live. I'm not like most people, I don't usually remember what I read, but I remember what I saw."

Here is a sneak peak of some of the the art in the book:

Adorable, right? Thanks for sharing, Jessica!

You can pre-order one of her sweet book by emailing Jessica Mingo at jessicamingo@hotmail.com. Be sure to check out her fun blog and etsy shop too!

It is raining here today and that makes me so happy. It reminds me of Seattle, which I miss so much. And it's just cozy! We're sorta of laying low, getting things done and lounging around here.

Some of my art was highlighted to today over at House on 31 Main! Apparently they found me through the brand new etsy shop. Who knew something like that would happen so fast? Fun! It's a blog for mommies so check it out if you get a chance

I'm currently working on some fun kids art, a large scale family rules painting, and a couple other commissioned verses - I will share them in the next couple of weeks.

A new look around here...

Welcome to the brand new look of artbybritt! Sweet Jessi put it all together and I could not be happier! Thank you so much for such a great makeover, Jessi!

Take a look around at the brand new pages up top including some new info and Q&As. I'll be updating a few more things in the next week or so as well as cleaning up the way things are organized on my end. Original Painting: I am the gate

This commissioned painting has some sweet meaning to it. A friend's mother passed away recently and this gold picture of Jesus was on her mother's dresser mirror for as long as she can remember. She wanted it mounted alongside this verse to display at her mother's memorial. What an honor to do a piece with so much weight behind it!

Goodness. We've had a rough couple of days with our daughter (she MUST be teething) so I feel like I'm not getting too much accomplished around here. Hoping to get a few things done today and looking forward to a relaxing weekend! The blog makeover is set to happen in just a couple days, so keep your eyes peeled for a new look and some fun changes, guest posts and giveaways! Yeay!

Some days, when the baby won't nap...

We both cry a little,
then we wear 80s style headbands.

One for the Other

This little painting was commissioned for a bride-to-be who is getting married in the spring. I'm not actually sure where the saying came from, but it's sweet. If you know anything about Ventura, you know the scene is a famous landmark around here called "Two Trees" - imagine that! I really enjoyed painting this because it was super simple but still has some movement and rich colors. Nothing too complicated.

I'm excited to share two other new paintings this week... both pretty different styles than what I typically do, so that's sorta fun. Hope you all are having a great week so far.

Complete Pen and Ink Greeting Card Set

It's been a little quiet around here again... lots going on for us. Lots of events coming up for our family, lots of changes happening in this new year, and lots of new art and hopes for this space just sort of incubating right now. I did finish 2 new paintings last week so I will share those soon!
