Thank You Cards
Today has been a busy one! I hung an art show at a friend's work, worked on my ATCs, went to Recovery Cafe, and now I'm getting ready for my little trip to California!
I have many many pics to share, but for now I'll show you what we did in Art Journaling today. Wendy, my teaching partner, was out sick - and she's the one who had the lesson plan for this week! Our faithful volunteer coordinator, Liz, came to my rescue with the idea to decorate Thank You cards for the cafe. The staff has so many thank yous to write to folks who support the cafe, and how cool is that to have the members decorate them? ALSO, we were in the new space, which is beautiful!! We have our very own classroom... so wonderful. So without further adieu, the new Recovery Cafe, our classroom and our thank you cards:
P.S. If you are reading this blog, please follow so I know who you are! I know there are more than the faithful 25, because I know where they all live... and it's sure not where all those little red dots are!

You are mine.
In response to my feelings about Haiti, I've been doing a lot of coloring... I think it's more about the words than it is about the markers, but it's still been a good process for me. I have quite a few to share this week, and next week I'll have an "auction" for some of them in support of Haiti relief efforts.
If you haven't yet, you should watch the sermon we heard on Sunday from our pastor about Haiti. It's very eye-opening and makes me feel like I should DO something, but what is there to do besides pray and send money? Am I the only one who feels helpless? How are each of you dealing with all the tragedies in the world (as we enjoy our beds and water and food...)?

MHC Haiti Presentation
Our pastor went to Haiti last week, and this presentation is a huge part in why I feel so saddened by it. It's really powerful, but really difficult to watch, so be warned.

Even So.
My heart is heavy today for the devastation in Haiti... not sure what to do or how to help. All the difficulties in my life seems to small in comparison to what is going on there. Other than pray and give money, I feel really helpless. I am hoping to get some art together to auction off, and will donate the proceeds... that feels so minimal, but I guess it's just one tangible way I can give... I'll keep you posted.

May Valley Alliance Church
Happy Friday everyone! This morning I drove out to Renton to drop off some art work to May Valley Alliance Church. The pastor contacted me through a friend of a friend, but I'm still a little baffled and confused at how we're connected, and at how excited the church is to have my work up! Most of the work I've been sharing with you lately is the series I am hanging at the church. It was originally the series I did for Mars Hill Church - it's been around 4 different MHC campuses, and now it's time for a change. David, the pastor of May Valley, really wants some colorful, thought provoking art on the walls of the church -- I'm honored that they want to use mine. Here is a look at the prep for hanging the work (I'll take more pics once it's all up).
The 3 pieces in a row (below)...
are going to go on this upper white wall in the center - it's a huge ceiling with a large picture window in front of it, so it should really make a statement.
We had a couple that wouldn't fit in the foyer, so they will be hung in the sanctuary.
After dropping off that work, I made a very successful trip to Good Will - I'm so excited about the things I found! I'm hoping to do some creative things with a few of the items, so I'll show you once I do. Have a wonderful weekend - I'm planning to rest and get 100% better!

Specs and Wings ATC Swap
I'm feeling pretty lousy today, so I've been laying low... had to miss out on art journaling at the Recovery Cafe's new location! I hear it's an awesome building and we'll have our own art classroom. I was so bummed to miss out on that today, but gotta get better!
Other than that, I wanted to share with you... I'm excited about my friend Molly's Valentine ATC Swap!

I know Valentine's Day is a few weeks off, but it will be here before we know it. AND, it's just such a fun idea - you make 5 cards, mail them to her, and she'll mail you 5 cards all by different artists! I'm ready to be inspired by other artists...If YOU want to be involved, contact Molly by February 1st at specsandwings@gmail.com.
