Wine label process

I've gotten a few more specifics for the wine label project that I am doing, so I'm changing it up and most likely doing something totally different, but here is a peek at some of the first few color ideas I tried out.

Make-Up Tips

My friend Rebecca just wrote a little article for her local area mom's blog. Rebecca is an amazing make-up artist and wardrobe stylist and we've been friends since we were 12. We wrote in our journals together in middle school (embarrassing) and then painted in art class together in high school (awesome). AND she did my make-up for our wedding and I've seriously never looked better. She's got skillz (uh, so I typed that with a z automatically, and then erased it and put an s, but I really think it's better with a z and I'm leaving it... so there). She's really so fun and we both wish we lived closer to each other.

Anyway, she wrote an an article about quick make-up tips... and I'm taking notes for a few weeks down the road when I just don't have time for my whole usual routine! Check the article and her website out if you get a chance.

Heat and wine labels.

It has been suuuuper hot here, so I was at my parent's house almost all day yesterday taking advantage of the AC and their amazing pool! I spent some time in my old room working on drawings and sketches for a couple of projects I mentioned... I'm excited to do something totally new and different! I haven't done anything like this before so we'll see how it goes. These are just some very rough ink ideas of some ideas for a wine bottle label. I'll show you some more detailed color ideas soon.

It's a little bit cooler today, but I'll probably still take advantage of the pool (it's really too wonderful to pass up... I told my mom I felt kinda grumpy yesterday and didn't know why and she said, "Yeah, I feel grumpy too and I'm not 8 and 1/2 months pregnant in this heat!" I guess I kinda forget sometimes how much my body is going through... until it's almost 100 degrees and all that helps is floating like a big whale in the water! HA!).

Hope you guys are having a good week.

Just an update...

I realize I've been a little lax in sharing pregnancy photos and details - I think mostly because I tend to post about that stuff on our family blog and somehow feel like I should only post artsy stuff here. But, this little one is coming soon and I certainly should keep you all in the loop. My belly has grown leaps and bounds since the last time you saw it and our lives have changes so much! I will try to be better about updating you on all that stuff. In the meantime, here is my huge belly as of yesterday...

I have a few art projects going on this week that I'll be sure to show you along the way. Still working on those pesky commissioned paintings that I just can't seem to get right! Grr. I'm also working on a fun wine label and finalizing that tattoo for a friend. Along with those little projects, you better believe I will be floating in my parents pool a LOT this week (it's suppose to be 80 something degrees all week! Summer has finally arrived, just as I was hoping for fall...).

Hope you all have a great Monday!

Falling for You class

I'm super excited that my friend Molly is having a fall art journaling class called "Falling for You!"

I won a drawing on her blog a while back and the prize was admission to the class, so I'm taking it and I'm really looking forward to it! It starts the day before the baby's due date, so we'll see how much I'll actually be able to do those first few weeks... but the private blog is available for a year, so hopefully I'll be able to catch up eventually. If you are into art journaling or need some art inspiration for fall, be sure to check it out and sign up!

A little peek.

Working on some paintings today that I really need to get done before this baby arrives... who knows what my time and schedule will look like for a little while. Here's a little sneak peek!

Yummy food and helpful hints.

I came across a really great guest post on Bleubird Vintage recently, and I just love it! I want to try all the recipes!

...and I want to post the list of helpful hints for people who really want to help someone with a new baby out (not that I've been there yet, but I've heard from others that it is sometimes difficult to manage all the people who mean well and honestly want to help but really just make life more exhausting sometimes...). I guess we'll see how it pans out when we actually get there, but I can't help thinking this girl has got the right idea (except for maybe the last one on the list... for me, sometimes no really just means no, so you'll have to take that for an answer...). I think all this also works for anyone who is homebound, ill, recovering from something or just for plain ol' being nice!

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

Observing Grief

"You can't see properly when your eyes are blurred with tears... Sorrow, however, turns out to be not a state, but a process."

Oh, boy.

What a weekend we had - my older sister lost her precious baby boy at 33 weeks and we are all really grieving. We knew it was coming but as you can imagine the actual event was (and is) just as difficult as anticipating it. Needless to say, I'm not sure that I have many exciting and happy pieces of art news for you, but I don't want to just drop of the face of blogging world (again... I've done that before and it always takes a while to get back into the groove, doesn't it?).

I'm still working on a couple of commissioned pieces that need to get done before our own baby arrives and there are actually a few special projects in the works (one having to do with wine and labels... anything involving wine is always special, right?). I will keep you in the loop, but please forgive me if posting continues to be sparse for just a bit!

Summer Recap

Hi friends - Sorry posting has been a bit spotty recently. My family is going through some really difficult things and it's been hard to feel motivated to be creative or timely with anything. I figured though, since everyone else seems to be starting in on the fall posts that I should recap the summer! It was sort of a crazy summer with no consistent schedule of creativity, but I still got a few things accomplished...

Ann and Eddie got married.

Cole and Luz did too!

I sold a bunch of old art in prep to move from Seattle to So Cal.

Lucy and Matt got married and Lucy's dad wrote them a sweet poem.

Baby Benjamin was born!

I was a sponsor over at Arian's blog for the month of July.

We successfully moved to CA and
got these adorable vintage chairs from my grandma.

I... painted a piece for some sisters.

...donated to Micah's March.

I became a sponsor at Create*Loves for this month!

And, I finally got Laura's birthday present to her.

I'm looking forward to the fall (hoping for a little bit cooler weather and some "season" here) and all that it will bring. We're looking forward to the birth of our first daughter and continuing to get settled in our new home here. We'll see how crazy life gets, but I'm looking forward to taking an art journaling class with Molly, working on some commissioned paintings and some gifts, and maybe making a few blog improvements here at Art By Britt. Thanks for checking in and coming back - I appreciate you all!

When you seek.

Yeay! I finished 1 of 3 commissioned paintings that I started working on this week. This one was a surprise birthday gift for someone who had already commissioned me to make it, but then someone else swooped in to buy it for her before she could. The birthday girl loved it! I'm so glad. Her house has kind of country blues, reds, cranberry colors and she wanted something to tie it all together. I've seen and done this verse a lot, but somehow every time I work with it I find something new to glean from it. Funny how that works. I was encouraged this week specifically by "I will listen to you..."

Hope you have a great Labor Day weekend! We have a baby shower tomorrow so I'm sure we'll be working on the baby's room some, plus we have plans to hang out with family for a fun BBQ and quality time (much needed with all the sad stuff that's happening lately!). Enjoy your weekend!

Create*Loves September Sponsor

Hey all!

Can you believe it's September 1st?? These days are flying by way too fast. It doesn't quite feel like fall around here yet (it's still SO hot), but I am looking forward to cooler days, cozy nights and changing leaves. Just wanted to let you know that I'm a sponsor over at Create*Loves this month and Holly made me a sweet blog ad! I love it! I'm so lame with all the html stuff, so I was stoked when she allowed me to use it on my page as well. Feel free to use it, pass it on, etc.

Just sharing the love... Make sure to check out her cute blog and all the other fun sponsors too! I've been working on some paintings ad the other things I was hoping for this week, so I'll be back soon to share.
