Life in lists.

This weekend, I:

  • Fought with a cold and sore throat (they won - they still are winning, as a matter of fact)
  • Missed out on a concert for my friend's birthday
  • Finally decided on baby bedding
  • Got beautiful flowers, homemade chicken noodle soup and a couple back rubs from my amazing husband
  • Slept a lot (Praise the Lord for Unisom!)

This week, I am hoping to:
  • Work on at least 1 of 3 commissioned paintings that need to be completed asap (or at least before the baby comes!)
  • Find a cute dress for my upcoming baby shower (any suggestions?)
  • Make final decisions on paint colors for walls in our house and get a few home decor details nailed down
  • Feel better!

Even thought I didn't make it to the event this last weekend, I got a little update on Micah's March: they raised $12,000 in support of Micah and SMA! So awesome! I'm glad I got to be a part of it and donate some art for a great cause.

Hope you all are off to a good start for your week!

In love.

This is the second piece I did for Micah's March. I actually really like this one and wish I had more orange in my house so I could make a similar one and hang it up! It's fun to get out of the usual routine paintings and create things that are a little bit different but still have some of the usual flair.

By the way, the lovely Arian is have a BOGO (Buy One Get One) sale in her Font Supply Etsy shop - I love some of them and am super tempted to get a couple for our home and the baby's room. I just love her work. Go check it out - it's such deal it's too good to pass up!

Hope this week is going well for each of you!

Be strong.

I've been working on a couple of paintings that I am donating to an auction for an event called Micah's March and wanted to share the first one with you today. Sweet baby Micah has a neuromuscular disease called spinal muscular atrophy and the event is put on to raise money to will help his family pay for all the medical bills.

"Most babies with SMA are born after a normal pregnancy, are seemingly healthy, and pass all current newborn screenings. SMA is a terminal and degenerative disease that causes weakness and wasting of the voluntary muscles in infants and children. Specifically, the disease is caused by an abnormal or missing gene known as the survival motor neuron gene (SMN1), which is responsible for the production of a protein essential to motor neurons. Without this protein, lower motor neurons in the spinal cord degenerate and die. As the motor neuron network breaks down, the ability of the brain to control muscles diminishes and with less control and use, muscles weaken and waste away. Simply, SMA eventually impacts every muscle in the body hindering the ability to walk, sit, stand, eat, breathe, and swallow. The mind always remains unaffected and children with SMA are bright, sensitive, and playful in spite of their failing bodies."
Please check out Micah's story and if you feel so inclined to go to the event or spread the word, please do! This verse is one that Micah's mom feels is kind of a theme for them, so I did two different paintings of the same verse. I'll be back to show you the second one soon!

More Tattoo Art.

Just a few little drawings I've been working on... they are all a work in progress and will most likely be changed slash added to, combined or taken out all together. Just getting some ideas together for a friend who might get her first tattoo in Vegas!

Also, new paintings coming soon!

Back to life.

Well, we're back from our third road trip of the summer! We drove out to beautiful Grand Lake, Colorado to spend some time with my family. It was a wonderful week full of reading, boating, ice cream, sleeping and hanging out with a couple of the cutest kids around. We always love being there, and the time always goes by too quickly. It's really nice to be home and now I'm in GO mode! So much to do... lots of art and lots of prep before our little one arrives (Just 8 or so more weeks! Whoa!).

How are things for all of you? I'm excited to see a few new followers here - welcome - we're glad to have you stop by!

Sisterhood.

I finished the painting that has been in the works since before we moved! Finally!

A pretty unique story behind this one - the client is the niece of some friend's who bought a piece for HER for her graduation. She liked it so much that she wanted to get a piece or two as gifts for others as well. Her sister is leaving for the Philippines this month, so she wanted to get her a gift that represented them as sisters and the new adventures to come in the Philippines.

The native language is Tagalog over there, so she looked up how to say "Sisterhood is Powerful" in that language and it comes out to "pakikipag-ugnayan ng mga kapatid na babae ay malakas." She decided she wanted both phrases somewhere in the painting, with images of little girls (sisters) playing together.

They also had a younger sister  who died in 2005 so she wanted to incorporate that sister in there too. The sun rays are just something subtle to remember her by, and her initials are barely shown in them.

Things have been pretty crazy around here with my family and getting settled and traveling... and if you can believe it we're off again tomorrow on a vacation with my entire family! We're excited to spend time at the lake again, especially with how heavy life has felt the last month or so. Hopefully we will be able to relax and enjoy the time there and not just be thinking about all the craziness that waits for us back home.

I've been thinking a lot about a blog revamp - what do you like to see here? I know I need to produce more art in order to show more art, but would it be fun for you all to see art from other folks I admire? Guest posts? More home inspiration, crafty projects, etc? I'd love to know what keeps you coming back! Have a great weekend and I'll be back soon-ish after our trip to share more art with you.
