Heading out of town.

Well, we're on our way eaaaarly tomorrow to Grand Lake, Colorado! I've been there almost every summer since I can remember, and I'm so excited to be there again. My whole fam will be there, plus a whole lot more great peeps for my cousin's wedding! So excited for her. It will be one great huge reunion of people I love! I am ready for sun, SeaDoos, walks into town, playing with my nephews and niece, afternoon rainstorms, journaling and quality time with my siblings and parents. It's all much needed. Grand Lake is a place I feel like I can just breathe and be. I'm looking forward to that - but only after the wedding weekend craziness, which will be so much fun as well!

When we return to Seattle, the remodel will be in full swing! We have a friend who is also Daniel's employee who will be doing some demo, putting plastic over all the furniture and doors...prepping things... I'm not even sure... but I'm pretty sure we'll come home next week to a huge mess! I'm excited! I will keep you posted on how that goes.

I'm also looking forward to working on some projects for a few friends of mine when we get back... trees for Travis and Tiff, reminders for Josh, and some kindling for Chloe! I'll keep you in the loop! Not sure about the internet connection while we're in the mountains - I'll post if I can, but otherwise you'll hear from me in a couple weeks.

Embarking on the remodel!

Today I enjoyed some quiet time in the morning with my huge mug of coffee (always with just a smidge of non-fat milk), welcomed my hubs home from his long morning bike ride, began to sweat at 10am (it's been almost 100 degrees or something alllll day!), and cleaned the bathroom and the kitchen. That was all before noon. After lunch, we packed said kitchen up (plus the dining room) and moved all of our belongings into our new "makeshift" kitchen...
our living room!

MAKESHIFT KITCHEN in the living room

We are now officially remodeling! I've been waiting and waiting (quite impatiently I might add) to get going on this "little" project, and then, after all was said and done this afternoon... I cried. I don't do well with change - so I looked at my little kitchen, all empty and sad, and shed a few (ok, quite a few) tears for those old sticky tiles, ever dirty grout, nasty linoleum floors, and chipping, yellowed cabinets. I am so excited for the new changes, but I always forget how sentimental I am and how I just love things to stay the same! My poor husband just lets me cry even though I am telling him how silly it is that I actually am crying over this! He's so sweet.

And now that I've added this more personal post, I can't even think of how to incorporate it into Art By Britt... but I'm sure we'll get some darn good art work out of this whole thing (ideas seem to come when I'm experiencing change or any intense emotion...), so stay tuned!

Masterpiece II

Well, this weekend has been HOT! I can't tell you how much I appreciate fans and AC at the moment... we don't have AC but we sure take advantage of it when we're somewhere that does have it. Who know that in Seattle we'd be wishing for cold again?

I wanted to post these 2 new pieces tonight - they came unplanned as I was cleaning out my palette and discovered that the paint peels off in sheets! I was super excited to incorporate it into a piece or 2, and this is what I came up with. A little different than I usually do, but kinda fun!

I'll be posting "For Sale" items starting tomorrow, so be on the lookout and let me know if you see something you like - or would like in other sizes and colors!

Love is.

Happy Friday!

Thanks for all the feedback yesterday! If anyone hasn't voted yet, there is still time - Let me know what you think. I haven't quite decided what I'm going to do yet.I have A LOT going through my mind lately... mostly about my art, but also some personal things too. I've been following some AMAZING artists who really have so much going on and are SO inspiring to me. I'm trying to figure out how to have enough time to be creative and create a lot of things, but also how to keep business going. It's tough! I wish I had time to just sit and paint all day... some days, I do - but then if I'm only painting and not selling, I'm not keeping the business end up. So, just some things I'm pondering.

I'm planning a post with lots of paintings that include official titles, sizes (they all look the same size when I post on here) and prices! Everything $100.00 or less -- spread the word!

In the meantime, here is a sneek peak at another gift I've been working on... again, can't show you the whole thing until they receive it, but I'm suuuuper excited about how it turned out and want to at least show you a little hint! Check back next week to see the entire piece.

Today I am working on a commissioned piece for a friend, as well as some other catch up and "just for fun" ones. I'll be working on the "for sale" post as well as some other business-y type things. Looking forward to the weekend... and more prep for our kitchen remodel (SO much to do!). Happy Friday, everyone!

"Interactive Thursday!"

Thanks to a lovely friend, I am inspired to have "Interactive Thursday..." I want your opinion!I've been thinking about a personal blog - there are so many things going on with life, and too many funny stories not to share! I want to be professional with my art blog, but seeing that there are only 9 (or so) of you actually following... you probably all know me and would like the personal stories anyways. What do you guys think? Just "professional?" Or professional AND personal?

Everyone vote starting... now!

Tough times.

Times are tough right now. Seems like I've had more than a few jobs fall through because people just can't afford to pay their bills, let alone buy a piece of art from me. I had a great start to the year with a bunch of jobs - seemed like I was busy painting and working on customer service and improving my little business consistently for a few months there! Then, something changed. Business slowed down and life got busier, so somehow I stopped painting.

Just a couple weeks ago I got into the swing of things again... but now a couple more jobs have fallen through. I totally understand. I get it. Art may not be a priority for some in times like these... but then, for some, it is...right? I've gotten a few e-mails and phone calls of friends asking me to do a piece for them -- I love that! Honestly, it's sometimes painful to let go of pieces I've put my heart and soul into, so when I can send them home with someone I know, it makes it just a little bit easier! It's nice to kind of "keep track" of where all my work goes, and to know they are in a good "home."

With that being said, (Warning: shameless plug about to commence)if you know of anyone who wants a painting, or some sort of encouragement or inspirations on the walls of their home, please send them my way! I would love to have more work and I would love to send some fun art to homes that really want or need it!

A Small Peek

Been working on some gifts for people - both commissioned and personal. Can't show you the whole thing because I don't want to give it away, but here's just a hint at one piece in the works...
